The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has dismissed a viral video purportedly showing uniformed officers scooping fuel from an overturned tanker, clarifying that the individuals involved are not members of the NPF, Aiyekooto Reporters can now reports.
According to the statement released by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the NPF explained that the individuals in the video were personnel from a neighboring Francophone country whose uniforms resemble those of the Nigerian police.
Buttressing the Police claims, ACP. Olumuyiwa Adejobi said the conversation was in French which further confirms their non-affiliation with the Nigeria Police Force.
The Police Spokesperson, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi condemned the spread of the misleading video, emphasizing its potential to damage the police force’s reputation. “Such actions undermine the integrity of the force and have far-reaching negative consequences for the nation,” he stated.
He reiterated the commitment of the NPF, under the Inspector-General of Police, to maintaining professionalism and ensuring public safety.
The force urged citizens to verify information before sharing to prevent misinformation and foster national unity.
