Kano Police Arrest 13 Suspects in Drug, Thuggery Raids
The Kano State Police Command has arrested 13 suspects in two separate intelligence-led operations targeting drug peddling and thuggery in the state.
A statement issued by Police spokesperson for the state, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa has said.
According to the Police, the operations were carried out in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, on sustained intelligence-led and community-based policing, and under the strategic direction of the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, SFIPMA, MNIM, MNIPS, MASIS.
In the first operation, at about 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9, 2026, operatives of the Surveillance Team attached to the Panshekara Police Division, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted one Samson Yakubu, 21, of Samegu Quarters, and seven other suspects at a black spot in the area.
A thorough search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of 15 capsules of Pregabalin, 5 tablets of Diazepam, 10 tablets of Exol, and some quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. The suspects are currently in custody while investigations continue to unravel the source of the illicit drugs and other members of the syndicate.
In a related development, operatives attached to Kunchi/Ghari Division, between 1:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. on the same day, conducted a coordinated market patrol and raid at Matanfada Market, an area notorious for thuggery and intimidation of traders and residents during market hours.
The operation led to the arrest of five suspects identified as Abdullahi Isah of Dustin, Haruna Isah of Daqarawa Village, Habu Badamasi of Dan Taimu Village, Gambo Ya’u of Kura Village, and Abubakar Dahiru of Farau Village. Exhibits recovered during the raid have been secured as evidence, while efforts are being intensified to arrest other accomplices, CSP Kiyawa has said in the police reports privy to Aiyekooto Reporters.
Commending the operatives for their professionalism and swift action, CP Bakori reiterated the Command’s resolve to sustain the fight against drug abuse, thuggery, and all forms of violent crime in the state.
“In line with the IGP’s policing vision and our mandate to ensure a safe and secure Kano, we will continue to be proactive. We are sending a clear message to criminal elements that Kano State will not be a breeding ground for their activities,” the CP stated.
The Command appreciated members of the public, community leaders, and vigilante groups for providing timely and actionable information that aided the operations, and called on residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movement to the nearest police station.
The Police said all suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations, the spokesperson, CSP Kiyawa has said.
