Anambra Police Arrest 22-Year-Old Lady Over Alleged Self-Kidnapping After N3m Ransom Payment

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old lady, Nwachukwu Chidubem Blessing, for alleged conspiracy, fraud and self-kidnapping, after her family reportedly paid N3 million in ransom. The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga has stated in a report made available to Aiyekooto Reporters .

According to the Spokesperson, SP Ikenga confirmed that, Blessing was arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, Awkuzu, following credible intelligence gathered during investigation into a reported kidnapping incident.

The suspect was allegedly abducted along the Onitsha-Asaba Expressway on August 29, 2026. Her family was said to have paid the sum of N3 million as ransom demanded by her purported abductors, but she was not released, a development that prompted further investigation.

Following sustained intelligence gathering, police operatives on the afternoon of September 18, 2026, traced and located the alleged victim in a room in Asaba, Delta State, where she was recovered.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the lady allegedly conspired with a female associate identified simply as Onyinye, whose surname is yet to be ascertained, and a male accomplice currently at large, to stage her own kidnap in order to extort money from her family.

The suspect is currently in custody and is assisting the police with useful information to establish the full circumstances surrounding thee incident and to apprehend her accomplices.

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, mnips, has directed that the investigation be intensified to unravel the full details of the case and ensure that all persons found culpable are brought to justice in accordance with the law. SP Ikenga has said in the report.
