Police Officer Dismissed for Raping 16-year-Old Girl in Police Custody

In what seems absurd and common among entrant police officers who are bad image to the Nigeria Police Force despite severe warnings, some of this disgruntled elements still persist.

The Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun PhD, NPM gave directives that discipline should be hallmark of any the Nigeria Police Force during his watch .

The Force Spokeperson, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi has spoken severally about the IGP directives on Force discipline, consequentially some have been dismissed, while some have been demoted to lower ranks depending on the nomenclature of the case. While some are privilege on merit to have been promoted for exhibiting core professionalism in discharge of their official duties.

Defiant to the directives echoed in Benue State Police Command has led to the dismissal of a Police Constable identified as Belasa Iyangedue for raping a 16-year-old kept in the police detention.

Our correspondent gathered that the victim was detained for defamation.

While in detention at the Divisional Police headquarters, Tse Agbaragba in the Konshisha Local Government Area of the state, the Constable who pretended to be assisting her, reportedly went into the female cell and took her into an office where he had sexual intercourse against her consent.

The underage girl was said to have reported the case to the Divisional Police Officer leading to the arrest of the Constable and the case brought to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Makurdi for proper investigations, it was upheld of that the police officer actually err and established of his gross indiscipline.

The Constable is already being prosecuted at the Magistrates’ Court, Makurdi.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Bartholomew Onyeka, confirmed his dismissal to journalists in Makurdi.

CP Onyeka said, “The dismissed constable committed the crime at Tse Agbaragba Divisional Police Station, Konshisha LGA.

“The police is a disciplined organ and being the statutory organ responsible for crime and fighting crime and management, such people are not allowed to stay in the system.

“He was not only dismissed, he is facing prosecution.” as at the time of filing this report Aiyekooto Reporters can authoritatively confirmed.
