2027: Shettima Urges North to Reciprocate Tinubu’s Long-Standing Support
Vice President Kashim Shettima has called on northerners to ensure the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027, describing it as a deserved reciprocation for his years of support for northern politicians.
Shettima made the call on Saturday at the launch of the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential campaign in Kaduna.
According to the Vice President, President Tinubu has consistently supported political leaders from the North, including former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“Ensuring the re-election of President Tinubu in 2027 would be a fair way for the region to reciprocate the support he has shown to northerners over the years,” Shettima said.
He recalled that Tinubu once provided a political platform for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to contest the presidency in 2007 after his exit from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and also supported the current National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, when he contested on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN.
The Vice President further noted that Tinubu played a pivotal role in canvassing support for the late President Muhammadu Buhari during the 2015 and 2019 presidential campaigns, personally mobilizing Nigerians to ensure Buhari’s victory.
Defending the current administration’s record, Shettima maintained that the Tinubu-led government has delivered on its promises across key sectors, adding that re-electing the President would be a mark of honour for a man who has stood solidly with the region.
He cited several projects in Kaduna State as evidence of the administration’s achievements, including the establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, the upgrade of the Federal College of Education, Zaria, to a Federal University of Education, the establishment of a state vocational institute in Rigachikun, and the Federal Medical Centre, Kafanchan.
Shettima also listed major infrastructure projects in northern Nigeria, including substantial progress on the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano, AKK, gas pipeline, the Kano-Maradi railway, the Lagos-Kano rail corridor, and the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano road.
He added that work is ongoing on the Sokoto-Badagry superhighway, which he said would open up vast opportunities for agricultural production in the country.
The Vice President assured that more development projects would come to the region if the administration is returned to power in 2027, urging northerners and Nigerians to renew the mandate of the APC from top to bottom.
