OPEN LETTER TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA

OPEN LETTER TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA

His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR
Aso Rock Villa, Abuja

RE: WHY DCP ABBA KYARI SHOULD BE RELEASED UNCONDITIONALLY IN THE NATIONAL INTEREST AND TO PLACATE THE NORTH

Your Excellency,

I write to you today not just as a citizen, but as a concerned Nigerian who believes in your capacity for statesmanship, justice, and national healing. I write to make a passionate appeal for the unconditional release of Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari.

Mr. President, this appeal is rooted in three compelling realities: Justice, Security, and National Unity.

1. A Matter of Justice and Unparalleled Service

DCP Abba Kyari is not an ordinary officer. He is a super-cop whose name became synonymous with gallantry, intelligence-led policing, and results. For over a decade, he led the IRT to dismantle the most dangerous kidnapping gangs, armed robbery syndicates, and terrorist cells that terrorized the North and the entire country. From the capture of Evans to the neutralization of countless bandits on the Abuja-Kaduna axis, his record is public and unmatched.

The North remembers. The masses remember who stood between them and terror when it mattered most. Keeping such a man in prolonged detention without conviction while notorious criminals are granted amnesty and reintegration sends a dangerous signal to every honest officer in uniform.

2. A Matter of National Security

Nigeria is at war. Banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism have stretched our security architecture to its limit. We are losing gallant officers daily. At a time like this, can Nigeria afford to keep one of its most decorated, experienced, and intelligence-savvy crime fighters on the sidelines?

Your Excellency, Abba Kyari’s expertise in intelligence gathering, tactical operations, and criminal network infiltration is a strategic national asset. His unconditional release and reinstatement will boost the morale of the police force and send a clear message that the state rewards excellence and bravery.

3. A Matter of National Unity – To Placate the North

Mr. President, you are a master politician who understands the delicate balance of this nation. You know that perception is powerful in politics.

Rightly or wrongly, a large section of Northern Nigeria sees the continued ordeal of Abba Kyari as selective justice and persecution of their own. He is seen as a son of the North, a Kanuri pride, a northern star who served Nigeria with his life. His continued incarceration has created a deep sense of grievance, alienation, and mistrust among millions of his admirers in the North.

Your unconditional release of DCP Kyari will be more than a legal act; it will be a profound political act of reconciliation. It will placate the North, heal a wound, and demonstrate that your administration is a listening government that embraces all sections of the country. It will win you the hearts and undying loyalty of the common people of Arewa, who are your ardent supporters.

It will prove that under the Renewed Hope Agenda, those who risk their lives for Nigeria are not abandoned.

Mr. President, history beckons. Great leaders are remembered for their courage to take difficult but unifying decisions. Nelson Mandela released his enemies to build a nation. You can release a national hero to secure a nation.

I therefore humbly but firmly appeal to you, in the exercise of your constitutional powers and your fatherly wisdom, to order the unconditional release of DCP Abba Kyari.

Let him return to his family. Let him return to the service of his fatherland. Let the North feel a sense of belonging again.

Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Long live President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Yours faithfully,

E-signed
