Atiku to Tinubu: Your Record, Not My Investment, Will Decide 2027
The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has said President Bola Tinubu will be voted out of office in 2027 over his administration’s failure to tackle Nigeria’s economic and security challenges.
Atiku made the remark in a statement issued on Saturday by his media aide, Phrank Shaibu, in response to President Tinubu’s comments questioning how he funded the American University of Nigeria (AUN), Yola, while serving as vice president.
He said the President should defend his record in office instead of attacking his investment in education.
Atiku explained that his investment in AUN and ABTI Academy began long before he became vice president in 1999, noting that the foundation of the institution was laid in 1993.
“My investment in the university was a long-term project that started before I became vice president in 1999. It is therefore wrong to suggest that it was established with money I made while in office,” he said.
He challenged President Tinubu to account for his administration’s performance, accusing it of worsening poverty, insecurity, unemployment, and the cost-of-living crisis.
“Your failures will send you packing in 2027. Rather than attacking my investment in education, you should tell Nigerians what you have done to improve their lives,” Atiku said.
He urged the President to address Nigerians’ concerns about the state of the nation instead of turning his private investment into a subject of political attack.
