Tinubu Cannot Stop Criticism

Senator Shehu Sani, a former lawmaker and social critics in an interview with Arise News monitored by Aiyekooto Reporters , described himself as one of those who fought for democracy in Nigeria.

In the interview, he noted that some of those who describe themselves as democrats today were nowhere to be found, when himself and others fought against the likes of Babangida and Abacha during the military regime.

Shehu Sani said he went to jail as a result of the struggle for democracy. He said he was sentenced to life imprisonment but, he somehow managed to get out of jail.

Senator Shehu Sani furthermore took a quick swipe at the president-elect, Bola Tinubu. He said the former Lagos state governor was one of those who inspired people to protest and criticize government.

He said since Bola Tinubu inspired people to protest and criticize those in power, he cannot in his right senses tell people not to criticize him.

Shehu Sani said “When we were fighting Babangida under the military, when we were fighting Abacha, where were these people who call themselves democrats and politicians? Where were they? I was in the forefront of those who fought for June 12. We brought this democracy, I didn’t go to police cell, I went to jail as a man who was convicted to life imprisonment and I came out.

“This democracy is a product of what we fought. Luckily enough, the president-elect was one of those who were in trenches, so he cannot in all right senses look at others and say they shouldn’t criticize him. As much as he has produced governors, ministers, senators, he was one of those who inspired people to come out and protest and criticize government.”
