LSSTF Bolsters Lagos Immigration Command with Bus, Rain Gear to Tighten Border Security

The Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) has stepped up its support for border security and migration management in Lagos, donating a 28-seater coaster bus and 60 raincoat jackets to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Lagos State Command.

Presented on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, the items are meant to boost operational mobility and improve personnel welfare as the Command intensifies efforts against irregular migration and other security threats across the state.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, LSSTF Executive Secretary/CEO Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan commended the NIS for its commitment to protecting Lagos through effective border and migration management. He reiterated the Fund’s pledge to back security agencies safeguarding lives and property.

“Whoever is committed to keeping Lagos secure will always find a dependable partner in the Lagos State Security Trust Fund,” Ogunsan said.

He noted that the intervention was made possible by the support of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, the Fund’s donors, Board of Trustees, and Lagos residents who continue to invest in the state’s security infrastructure. Ogunsan also praised Comptroller General of Immigration Kemi Nandap for her leadership in strengthening the Service nationwide.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the Comptroller General, Lagos State Comptroller of Immigration, Christopher Olu Onajinrin, described the gesture as “timely and strategic,” adding that it would significantly enhance the Command’s operational effectiveness.

Onajinrin thanked Governor Sanwo-Olu, Chief of Staff Pastor Tayo Ayinde, the LSSTF, and Dr. Ogunsan for their sustained support. He assured residents that the bus and rain gear would be deployed to improve migration management and border security operations across Lagos.

The Comptroller disclosed that the Command has recorded notable gains in recent weeks, repatriating 128 irregular migrants — including nationals of Cameroon, Chad, and Burkina Faso — within the past two weeks as part of heightened enforcement against illegal migration.

He explained that repatriation operations are logistically demanding, particularly in terms of transportation. The new coaster bus, he said, will cut operational costs, improve response time, and enable faster deployment of personnel during enforcement activities.

The donation reinforces the Lagos State Government’s commitment to strengthening the state’s security architecture through targeted investment in agencies responsible for border control, lawful migration, and public safety. It also reflects ongoing efforts to equip security institutions with the resources needed to preempt and address emerging threats.
