The Labour Party Vice Presidential candidate in the 2023 presidential election, Datti Baba Ahmed, has declared that the party had won the presidential election, despite the Supreme Court’s affirmation of Bola Tinubu’s victory.
Ahmed said the Supreme Court’s decision was based on “illegality” and “unconstitutionality“.
Speaking on Arise TV on Monday, Datti said, “Labour Party won the presidential election. The Supreme Court did not affirm Tinubu’s victory. They affirmed INEC’s illegality and the unconstitutionality. They are bullies. There’s nothing we can do at this point about it, but that doesn’t mean we accept it.”
He added, “I pointedly said, he must not be sworn in. And I remain on that point. Alhaji Tinubu remains constitutionally challenged.”
Earlier in the day, Labour Party Presidential candidate Peter Obi held a world press conference, expressing his dismay over the Supreme Court’s judgment.
Obi accused the court of ignoring “rigging, identity theft, forgery, and perjury” in its ruling. He further stated that the Supreme Court had “abandoned its responsibility as a court of law and policy” and exhibited an “aversion to public opinion.”
Obi said the “overwhelming evidence of election rigging” and the “breaches of the Constitution” that were brought to light during the election process. He lamented that the Supreme Court’s decision had placed a “heavy moral burden” on the nation’s conscience
