Veteran Journalist, Publisher of The Eagle Online, Dotun Oladipo, Dies at 56
The Nigerian media industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of veteran journalist and Publisher of The Eagle Online, Mr. Dotun Oladipo.
Oladipo, a former Politics Editor of PUNCH Newspapers, died on Tuesday, August 25, 2026. He was 56.
His death came as a rude shock to colleagues, friends, associates and the entire journalism community.
Oladipo was not just a thoroughbred professional; he was a newsroom leader, a mentor to many young reporters and a quiet force who helped shape modern online journalism in Nigeria.
From his impactful years at PUNCH, where he distinguished himself as a sound political reporter and editor, to founding The Eagle Online – which grew to become one of Nigeria’s most respected online newspapers – he embodied integrity, hard work and dedication to truth.
His passing leaves a huge void that will be difficult to fill.
Burial arrangements will be announced by the family in due course.
