Badejo-Okusanya Elected 33rd NBA President, Makes History as Second Female Leader
Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, has been elected as the 33rd President of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA.
The Chairman of the Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association, ECNBA, Mr. Aham Ejelam, SAN, announced the results on Sunday at the NBA National Secretariat in Abuja.
Badejo-Okusanya secured 12,317 votes, representing 47.18 per cent of the total votes cast, to emerge victorious.
She defeated her closest rival, Mr. Lateef Akangbe, SAN, who polled 7,934 votes, representing 30.39 per cent, while Mr. Olumuyiwa Akinboro, SAN, came third with 5,855 votes, representing 22.43 per cent. A total of 26,106 votes were recorded in the election.
Badejo-Okusanya will serve a two-year term from 2026 to 2028. Her emergence makes her the second female President of the NBA in its history, after Mrs. Priscilla Kuye, who led the association from 1991 to 1992.
The election was marred by technical glitches and a reported cyberattack, which caused delays in the process.
Reacting to the outcome, the outgoing President of the NBA, Mr. Afam Osigwe, SAN, said the election survived attempts to derail it and called for unity within the association. He urged the new leadership to be magnanimous in victory and announced that a comprehensive review of the electoral process would be conducted to strengthen future polls.
Badejo-Okusanya was absent at the announcement of results due to a flight delay. However, a member of her campaign team said she remains committed to fostering unity within the Bar.
