The Head of Force Criminal Investigation Department Alagbon Annex Lagos ,AIG Idowu Owohunwa has paid a visit to Police Special Fraud Unit Ikoyi.
It is noted that since his assumption of office he made a first official visit to the Police Unit . During the visit, he engaged with the detainees in police custody numbering twenty of them.
The bewildered Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Owohunwa was stunned to discovered the non compliance with fundamental human rights of detained suspects as some of them have exceeded the period of detention. A statement released by the Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex Alagbon, ASP Aminat Oluwakemi Mayegun has said.
AIG Idowu Owohunwa reputable for his no nonsense stance cautioned the Head of the PSFU to ensure proper monitoring of the Police Cell to prevent future occurrence and custodial violence.
Speaking further AIG Idowu Owohunwa, “highlighted the necessity to respect the rights of citizens in custody. This visit serves as a reminder of our commitment to ensuring humane treatment and upholding the fundamental rights of individuals in detention”.
He therefore urged all Sectional head to take a proactive approach by routinely visiting the cell within their purview to ensure justice and human rights preservation, ASP Mayegun was quoted in the statement released.
