“My Father Was Stabbed To Death By Naval Officers After Being Asked To Identify Themselves” – Son

In the early hours of today, the Punch paper granted Benjamin Abiona, the son of a slain policeman, an interview where he narrated what led to his father’s death.

Benjamin Abiona said, “my dad was inside the police van on the day some naval officers were asked, by my dad’s colleagues, to identify themselves while on bike. They refused to do as instructed so the issue was about leading to an altercation. Immediately, my father alighted from the van and settled the seeming misunderstanding. When my dad was returning to where the police vehicle was, one of the naval officers ran towards him and stabbed him to death.

Narrating further, the deceased policeman’s son said, “my dad’s colleagues quickly tried to arrest the man with the jackknife but he stabbed three more people. After some time, my father was rushed to the hospital.”

Speaking further, Benjamin Abiona said, “since my father died, I paused my education. I am in final year but had to stop working on my project to handle the case but the Nigerian navy is not responding to us since we concluded autopsy report on the case. The autopsy also confirmed he was stabbed.”

Again, Benjamin Abiona said, “as a family, we are pained over our father’s demise. This is because he had so many dream. He was even the police officer that was awarded by former governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos state for returning a five million naira he found. He was even promoted for being faithful to the Nigeria Police Force (NPF). We want justice in order to rest our nerves regarding the incident.”

Lastly, the Lagos police spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, was reached out to regarding the incident and he said, “the navy did not reach out concerning the case until punch newspaper made a report about it
