The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the redeployment of four senior police officers as Commissioners of Police to Plateau, Enugu, Nasarawa and Ondo States.
The postings followed interviews conducted by the Commission to assess the suitability of the officers for state command positions.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Head of Protocol and Public Relations of the Commission, Torty Njoku Kalu.
According to the statement, CP Sunday J.A. Okoebor has been deployed to Plateau State, CP Fidelis Ogarabe to Enugu State, CP Sheikh Mohammed Danko to Nasarawa State, and CP Johnson Ayodeji Babalola to Ondo State.
The Commission said the appointments were based on the officers’ professional competence, experience, learning and character.
Prior to their redeployment, Okoebor served as Commissioner of Police, Police Accounts and Budget, Force Headquarters, Abuja; Ogarabe was CP, INTERPOL Annex, Lagos; Danko was CP, Force Intelligence Annex, Lagos; while Babalola served as CP, Special Inquiry Bureau, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The Chairman of the PSC, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (retd.), who affirmed the postings at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, said the appointments were in line with Section 215(1)(b) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empowers the Commission to appoint Commissioners of Police for states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Argungu, who was represented by a member of the Commission, Justice Paul Adamu Galumje (retd.), said he was satisfied with the performance of the officers during the interview, noting that they demonstrated the requisite qualities in learning and character.
He charged the new Commissioners to remain impartial in the discharge of their duties and to ensure that their conduct reflects the high expectations of their offices, while upholding professionalism and effective leadership in their respective state commands.
