DIG ADEGOKE FAYOADE MUSTAPHA, MNI, VISITS AYOBO-IPAJA LCDA, COMMENDS AGBAJE ADMINISTRATION’S SECURITY INITIATIVE

Describes Situation and Complaint Room as a Model for Grassroots Security

The Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Head of Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT), Force Headquarters, Abuja, and Supervising DIG for the South-West Geopolitical Zone, DIG Adegoke Fayoade Mustapha, MNI, has commended the grassroots security initiative of the administration of Hon. (Dr.) Agbaje Lukmon Abiodun during an official working visit to Ayobo-Ipaja Local Council Development Area (LCDA).

DIG Mustapha was received at the Council Secretariat by the Executive Chairman, Hon. (Dr.) Agbaje Lukmon Abiodun, alongside members of the Executive Council, the Legislative Arm, the Management Team and security stakeholders across the LCDA.

The visit underscored the importance of technology-driven policing, inter-agency collaboration and active community participation in addressing security challenges and strengthening public safety at the grassroots.

A major highlight of the engagement was the inspection of the Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA Situation and Complaint Room, an initiative established by the Agbaje administration to provide residents with an accessible platform for reporting security incidents, public complaints and emergencies, while facilitating effective communication and coordination with relevant security agencies.

Commending the initiative, DIG Fayoade described the Situation and Complaint Room as an innovative and people-oriented intervention that could serve as a model for strengthening the grassroots security architecture. He noted that the initiative reflects the Council’s commitment to responsive governance, accountability, transparency and the protection of lives and property.

He observed that local governments have a critical role to play in community safety by establishing accessible channels through which residents can report concerns and engage relevant authorities. He encouraged other Local Government Areas across Lagos State and Nigeria to adopt similar initiatives to strengthen their security frameworks.

The DIG also emphasised the importance of proactive, credible and timely information sharing, noting that effective security management requires the collective effort of government, security agencies and residents.

He urged residents to make responsible use of the Situation and Complaint Room by reporting suspicious activities and security concerns through appropriate official channels. He further cautioned against the spread of unverified information, stressing the need for accurate reports to enable security agencies to respond promptly and effectively.

“Policing without the people is bound to fail. What you have done here in Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA with this Situation Room is a demonstration that government is close to the people. When citizens provide credible and timely information, we can respond faster and prevent crime before it happens,” DIG Mustapha stated.

In his response, the Executive Chairman, Hon. (Dr.) Agbaje Lukmon Abiodun, expressed appreciation to the DIG for the visit, describing it as an important milestone for the Council and an encouragement to its ongoing efforts to strengthen community safety and institutional collaboration.

The Chairman noted that the visit provided an opportunity to showcase the Council’s commitment to a safer and more responsive local government through practical interventions, strategic partnerships and active citizen engagement.

He reaffirmed that security remains a fundamental pillar of his Ìjọba Ìròrùn (Government of Ease) administration, which prioritises the peace, comfort, safety and prosperity of residents.

Hon. Agbaje also assured the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies of the Council’s continued cooperation in the areas of logistical support, intelligence sharing, community mobilisation and other mutually beneficial efforts aimed at maintaining law and order.

He encouraged residents to take ownership of the Situation and Complaint Room by using it responsibly, promptly reporting suspicious activities and cooperating with security agencies to prevent crime and promote peaceful coexistence across Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA.

The visit concluded with the presentation of an award to DIG Fayoade Mustapha in recognition of the occasion, followed by a group photograph and a guided tour of the Situation and Complaint Room.

The engagement further highlighted the Agbaje administration’s focus on strengthening grassroots security, deepening collaboration with relevant institutions and promoting a governance framework that places the safety and well-being of residents at the centre of public service delivery.
