Joy bagged his bachelor’s degree in Civil engineering from the Federal University of Technology Akure with a 4.86 over a possible 5.00 cumulative grade point average. He has always been a high achiever in his academic pursuits.
Upon graduating from high school, Joy had nine distinctions in all the subjects he sat for in his senior secondary school certificate examinations. He said he enrolled in the university with the goal to graduate with a perfect 5.00 grade point but he was still able to achieve success.
He mentioned that the reading pattern he developed helped him a lot. Joy said he prefers to read his book thoroughly and understand it to gain knowledge instead of cramming was what worked for him.
Joy added that whenever class explanations and handouts did not give him sufficient understanding, he often sought online textbooks, and YouTube videos, or got a colleague/senior to tutor him for a better understanding.
He mentioned that one of his best moments in the university was when he was celebrated and awarded a plaque by his colleagues titled “Helping us achieve our goal” because of the tutorial lessons he organized for them.
Joy stated that his low moment was whenever he saw unexpectedly bad grades, especially after putting so much effort into excelling in them. He added that his consolation is usually that he puts his best efforts into other courses
He stated that during the course of his Student Work Experience Programme (SWEP 2), he developed skills in software related to his field of study such as AutoCAD and ORIAN. He also developed basic skills needed in data analysis for research purposes.
Joy said he plans to enter the academic space, especially in the area of teaching and research both to revolutionize the academic sector in Nigeria and to guide young lives into the bright future ahead of them.
