“We want a good government that is accepted by the people and we don’t want election rigging” – Adebanjo

The 2023 presidential election that produced Bola Ahmed Tinubu as President is still being contested at the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal (PEPT), and some Nigerians still believe that the electoral process wasn’t free and fair.

While speaking on this during an interview with Arise TV, the leader of the apex Yoruba socio-cultural organization, Afenifere, Ayo Adebanjo, noted that he disagrees with the way Bola Ahmed Tinubu became the President of Nigeria.

Speaking further, he alleged that the 2023 presidential election wasn’t free and fair, adding that he would have been happy for President Tinubu but the electoral process that brought him in wasn’t fair.

He made it clear that Tinubu is capable of governing the country but claimed that anything built on a wrong foundation won’t succeed. He also said that the group aims to ensure that the government is accepted by the people and they won’t tolerate election rigging.

“I’m one of those who disagrees with the way he (Tinubu) got there. If the election was free and fair, I would have been very happy because it was through me that God made him the governor of Lagos State.

I don’t believe in an election that isn’t free and fair but he is a capable man if not I wouldn’t have made him governor.

The problem is anything built on a wrong foundation cannot succeed. The struggle of Afenifere is that we want a good government that is accepted by the people and we don’t want election rigging.”
