Thirteen Years Jail Terms For 2nd Niger Bridge Robbers In Anambra

Anambra State Police Command has secured conviction of the two robbers arrested on the second Niger Bridge weeks ago.

The robbers who were arrested with two daggers and five sim cards removed from phones of their victims pleaded guilty when arraigned in court, the State Spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga has authoritatively confirmed to journalists in Akwa the State Capital.

It should be recalled that, Aiyekooto Reporters in upholding excellent reportage of crime across the geopolitical zones made the publication of the suspects in one of it’s crime news.

In compliance with the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, detectives worked on the sim cards and traced two of the victims one of whom is a lawyer. Victims cooperated with investigation and evidence gathered was presented before the court, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga has said in the reports slighted by Aiyekooto Reporters.

“Both accused persons were sentenced to 5 years jail term each on each of the first two counts and 3 years imprisonment for the third count”.

“The sentences which are without option of fine are to run concurrently”

“The convicts have been remanded to Onitsha Correctional Centre to serve their jail terms”.

“The Commissioner of Police has advised youths to learn lesson from this conviction and shun crime inorder not to jeopardize their future”, the statement read in part.

It should be recalled that when the Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye assume office, he made first his familiarisation visit to key stakeholders in the State. One of such visit is the Judiciary for cooperation, the effort of effective policing will be useless without critical collaboration and synergy from authorize institution of government.

This will facilitate punishment for law offenders , in accordance to law, to serve as deterrent for others not getting cheap bailing conditions that ensure crime strive and reign supreme. Therefore it should be accorded that the released statement from the Spokeperson for the State DSP Tochukwu Ikenga is not unconnected with the synergy between the Police State Command, victims cooperation and the Judiciary.
Credit should be given to the court for accelerated justice. Justice delayed, is justice denied.
