The nation woke up agog to the news of promotions of almost two thousand police officers into their next substantive ranks in the Nigeria Police Force. The Police Service Commission who rose up after Management meeting at the Commission’s corporate Headquarter in Jabi Abuja alerted the nation on Tuesday, January 23rd, 2024.

The irrepressible Spokeperson for the Police Service Commission, Ikechukwu Ani has said in a statement released and signed.

Though the news of the promotions came after the recruitment screening exercise across the six geopolitical zones of the country couple with serious stimulating challenges on the security architecture in the country where it seems the country is witnessing very strong devastating challenges on kidnapping and banditry deep into the nerves of the country capital Abuja.

It’s therefore coming at a time security expertise are of the view that it’s a right step in the right direction. The Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Dr Solomon Arase admonition is a confirmation of the aforesaid, hear him, “These promotions should further ignite the indomitable fighting spirit of the Officers and Men” The former Inspector General of Police, Dr Solomon Arase CFR has said.

AIG Dasuki Galadanci is the only one promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police to fill the vacuum of the retiring DIG Ibrahim Sani Ka’oje who is expected to retire on the 2nd of February 2024.

It should be recalled that, AIG Dasuki Galadanci is in charge of Zone 12 Bauchi, the promotion is as a result of the most senior police officer merited to fill the gap of the North West Geopolitical zone of the country hence, promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police.

Speaking further, Ani told the nation that after the rise of the Management meeting the Police Service Commission approved 1897 Police Officers to the next ranks.

In a clear numerical analysis and explicit reports, 14 Commissioners of Police were promoted to Assistants Inspector General of Police, 21 Deputy Commissioners of Police to Commissioners of Police, 20 Assistants Commissioner of Police to Deputy Commissioners of Police, 109 Chief Superintendents of Police to Assistants Commissioner of Police, 184 Superintendents of Police to Chief Superintendents of Police 1549 Assistant Superintendents of Police to Deputy Superintendents of Police the omission of Deputy Superintendents of Police to Superintendents of Police ranks was not forthcoming neither did the Commission Spokeperson mentioned it in the approvals list.

According to Ikechukwu Ani, the Head of Press, Media and Publicity only CP Yetunde Longe made the list as the only female, newly promoted Assistant Inspector General of Police in the country, while thirteen others are male.

The approval list for the AIGs released are : Yetunde O. Longe, CP Eastern Ports, Portharcourt; Haruna Gabriel Garba, CP Federal Capital Territory; Tajudeen Akinwale Abass, CP Delta State; Rex Dundun, CP General Investigation, FCID Annex Kaduna; Durosinmi Olatoye, CP Akwa Ibom State; Afolabi Babatola Adeniyi, CP Adamawa State; Abiodun Oladimeji Asabi, CP Ondo State; CP Julius Alawari Okoro; CP Plateau state; George Chijioke Chuku, CP Benue State; Paul Alifa Omata, CP K9 Force Headquarters; Yusuf Adesina Akeem, CP Research and Development, Force Headquarters; Bzigu Yakabu kwazhi Dali, CP Osun State; Idris Nagoyo, Police Mounted troop Squadron and CP Ogundare Dare Emmanuel, CP Ekiti state. The list of the other affected promoted officers are also indicated in the promotion list.

The Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Dr Solomon Arase CFR have charge all promoted Police Officers to settle down immediately to acquaint themselves with the security architecture of the area they find themselves, admonishing them that their promotion should be justified by the serious security challenges to bring it to zero as the wave of kidnapping, banditry and other violent crime related incidence are on the rise.

He also reminded them that, they will be held responsible if there’s any relapse in the security architecture in their domain. The Chairman, Dr Arase has said that they should map out crime strategy to win the war ahead and ensure Nigeria safety, where all is enjoined to sleep with two eyes closed. Police officers, “should be able to engage in predictive policing to mitigate the current criminal disorders by criminal gangs now marauding across the length and breadth of the country”.

The Chairman Police Service Commission Dr Solomon Arase CFR has communicated the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun PhD, NPM for implementation of all the affected senior police officers.
