PHYSICIAN WEEK CELEBRATION , POLICE OFFICERS OTHERS BENEFIT IN OGUN STATE

The Nigeria Medical Association, Ogun State Chapter, under the leadership of Dr. Kunle Ashimi and Dr. Mutui Popoola, collaborated with the Nigeria Police Medical Services, headed by CSP Dr. Ihegboro Minachiso, to conduct a massive free medical care campaign at the Police Hospital Eleweran – Ogun State Police Command Headquarters on October 25th, 2023. The Ogun State Police Command Spokeperson, SP Omolola Odutola has said in a signed document.

She stated further that , “this initiative was part of the Nigeria Medical Association Ogun State Chapter’s corporate social responsibility and coincided with the Physician Week celebration. As a way of giving back to society, police officers were among the beneficiaries of this year’s free medical checkup”.

When giving verbatim analysis, SP Odutola said, “during the event, 14 doctors from different medical departments were present to provide their services. The campaign began at 9 am and catered to over 400 individuals, including patients seeking medical care and others who came for free consultations. Police officers, along with their families, including wives, children, and relatives, had the opportunity to benefit from the qualitative services rendered”

“Various healthcare services were offered, including free eye checks, dental checkups, medical consultations, blood glucose checks, and more. The event was also accompanied by generous donations of medicines, water, and food, which were distributed among the attendees”, she stressed.

Dr. Ashimi emphasized the importance of regular medical checkups for policemen due to the dangerous nature of their job. He advised all uniformed personnel not to neglect their mental and physical health but to seek medical care when needed.

The Commissioner of Police of the Ogun State Police Command, CP Abiodun Alamutu, graced the occasion and expressed his support for the initiative. He highlighted the timeliness of the campaign, referring to incidents where police officers collapsed and died. The Commissioner agreed with Dr. Ashimi’s advice and stressed the significance of recognizing the need for rest in order to maintain efficiency at work.

The patients who availed themselves of the free healthcare services during the consultancy week expressed their joy and satisfaction. They praised the vibrant healthcare center at the Police Hospital in Eleweran for providing excellent care. This event was a commendable effort by the Nigeria Medical Association, Ogun State Chapter, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Medical Services, to prioritize the well-being of police officers and their families and enhance access to quality healthcare within the community.
