The Police Service Commission has call for total overhaul of the Special Police Constabulary nationwide amidst unprofessional disposition of the personnel’s of the police quasi, a development that the Commission is very uncomfortable with.
Recall that the Commission operating with the mandate to ensure the Nigeria Police Force is measure with the international template on modern policing and ensure it serves it basic statutory functions. The Commission empowered to midwife the Nigeria Police Force into a better organization and serve the Nigerian people under the ambit of the law.
The Police Service Commission synergy with the Nigeria Police Force will be put in place to inform the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olukayode Egbetokun PhD, NPM the need to actualize the advocacy on the overhauling of the Special Police Constabulary and mode of Operation that’s now a source of concern.
The conflicting and negative reports give rise to the demand, bare faced extortion on roads and communities, high handedness in dealing with citizens among others are very disturbing hence the call for different set of uniforms for Officers of the outfit that will easily differentiate it from that of the regular Police Officers, this will enable it identify erring constabulary personnel from the regular Nigeria Police Force instead of the miscarriage of blames.
The Police Service Commission noted further that states where salaries are owned should be disbanded.
It’s a threat to national security to arm “a group of people and license them to provide security, maintain law and order in states and communities across the country without basic financial remuneration”.
The PSC has observed with keen interest that this men has to survive through forceful extortion and intimidation on innocent and unsuspecting Nigerians.
According to the Head of Press, Media and Publicity, Ikechukwu Ani, the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Dr Solomon Arase CFR has vowed to work closely with the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun PhD, NPM to sanitize the Police quasi and it’s operations on the rules of engagement and distinct differentiation of the outfit from the regular Nigeria Police Force .
