The Police Service Commission received a rare visitor. A former Deputy Inspector General of Police and one of the predecessor’s to the current Chairman. The former Chairman, Police Service Commission, DIG Parry Osayande (rtd) made a pleasant courtesy visit to the Commission and was well received by the incumbent Chairman and former Inspector General of Police, Dr Solomon Arase, CFR at the corporate headquarters Jabi-Abuja on Monday November 6th, 2923.
The visitor was pleasantly surprised over the transformation agenda of the incumbent Chairman over the sudden developmental milestones of Dr Solomon Arase CFR achievements in over a decade himself laid the foundation stones of the Police Service Commission corporate headquarters to the permanent sites.
According to Ikechukwu Ani, the Head of Press Media and Publicity of Commission, he was taking round the corporate headquarters edifice he initiated twelve years ago and was spellbound to depicts the five hundred (500) auditorium hall seating capacity named after him, ” Parry Osayande Auditorium Hall” , the elated Former Deputy Inspector General of Police, couldn’t hold back as he exclaimed in choice word’s, ” you have arrived, you have won and you will keep winning”.
He further advised that the Commission should keep up the fight adding “you are obviously doing well”
The former Chairman said the Commission and its staff should look up to the future with promise adding that the future portends good tidings.
He took the opportunity to go into memory lane while addressing the Staff at the auditorium named after him, that the PSC is the oldest Commission in the Country and was a product of the 1957 Constitutional Conference/Willinck Minorities Commission Report. This he said stemmed from the fears of the minority tribes in Nigeria who feared domination with respect to the maintenance of public order.
He noted that the Commission came into existence to ensure tribal balance and which later became the precursor for the coming of the Federal Character Commission.
The former PSC Chairman said at its inception the Commission was neglected to the point of death and relegated to the background but expressed happiness that the Commission is back on its feet and doing well.
Responding to the former Chairman emotional outburst which is not unexpected, Dr. Arase expressed happiness for the rare honour accorded the Commission by the visit of Osayande adding that he left valuable imprints in the growth of the Commission especially with the commencement of the building of its Corporate Headquarters.
He promised to sustain the spirit and grow the Commission to one of the best oversight bodies on Police in the world. He said the Commission will not at any time forget Osayande for planting the seed that has since germinated in the form of an intimidating edifice standing as the Corporate Headquarters of the Commission, Dr Arase concluded.
