Ondo state government has ordered the temporary closure of the Agbogbo-Roadblock axis of the Ilesa-Akure-Owo expressway in Akure to enable it carry out a comprehensive assessment of the work done so far on the ongoing Flyover bridge across the expressway.
In a statement, the Ministry of Infrastructure, Lands and Housing said during the assessment, government will carry out strategic tests on the substructure of the on-going flyover project from Onyearugbulem road to Irese road in Shagari village.
The statement which was signed by the Permanent Secretary, Infrastructure, Engr Allen Idowu said the highway will be closed from 6am on Sunday, 22nd October to 6am on Monday, 23rd October.
The statement stressed that the process of the test which will require massive engineering works in line with global engineering best practices could cause harm to road users hence the need to restrict movement in the area.
It assured that alternative routtes have been created and strategic road traffic maintenance personnel will be deployed to the construction area and alternative roads.
“Vehicular traffic will be diverted to the Oyemekun/Oba Adesida dual carriage way at Roadblock while vehicles will be diverted to the Agbogbo-Fiwasaye dual carriage way at Agbogbo junction”
While appealing to users of the road to bear with government, the statement emphasized that the measure is in everyone’s best interest.
