The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has urged the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, and the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to invite, examine, and probe former Senator Adamu Bulkachuwa as soon as possible.
According to news reports, Bulkachuwa claimed that he frequently influenced the judgments of his wife, former President of the Court of Appeal Zainab Bulkachuwa, when she was in office.
Last Saturday, at the Senate Valedictory Session on the floor of the Red Chamber, the former Bauchi Senator made this known.
He had said: “Particularly, my wife, whose freedom and independence I encroached upon while she was in office. And she has been very tolerant and accepted my encroachment and extended her help to my colleague.”
The immediate past Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, who presided over the valedictory session, cut the Bauchi Senator off before he could finish his speech.
However, Bulkachuwa’s remarks sparked indignation among Nigerians on and off social media.
Yakubu Maikyau, the NBA President, lambasted the former lawmaker in a statement issued following a meeting of the National Judicial Council (NJC) on Wednesday.
Bulkachuwa’s comments and behavior, according to the NBA President, were vile and disgusting, and he blatantly assaulted the judiciary.
Maikyau stated that he would write a letter to the IGP and the Chairman of the ICPC to investigate Bulkachuwa, claiming that the former lawmaker twisted the course of justice.
