The Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced a significant update concerning the issuance of international passports in Nigeria.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday to journalists, he assured that Nigerians will no longer face extended wait times for their passport applications.
Engr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo stated, “No one will ever wait for two weeks to get passports again. If you apply and have been captured, you will get your passport within two weeks.”
He further informed that the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has successfully cleared all the 204,332 passport application backlogs.
It’s worth noting that this comes after the minister’s directive on September 7, where he gave the NIS a two-week deadline to address and clear all pending passport applications.
It should be recalled that on assumption of office , the Honourable Minister, Olubunmi Tunji Ojo in his welcome address has highlighted the need to address the hydra monster of International Passports delay and the need to bring in operational efficiency in issuance of international passports and put an end to public disdain and plights.
This move signifies the government’s commitment to enhancing the efficiency of public services and addressing the grievances of citizens promptly.
