A veteran Nigerian journalist and social commentator Prince OB Omotunde has reacted to Sunday Igboho’s lawyer withdrawal of legal services base on comments made by Prof Banji Akintoye.
Prince Omotunde stated the lawyer withdrawal was face saving, lack of competence, cowardice, unprofessional and against the context of a genuine/client relationship.
Pelumi Olajengbesi , the Managing Partner of Law Corridor sudden withdrawal of legal service to Sunday Igboho over statement credited to Umbrella body of Yoruba Self Determination Groups ,Illana Omo Odua(IOO) led by Prof Banji Akintoye is mockery of the high profile lawyer pedigree who fought emphatically to secure the release of twelve persons unlawfully arrested by the State Security Service (SSS). While the major target Sunday Igboho still languished in Benin prison wall.
The lawyer smart withdrawal is a slap to the Yoruba nation having more lawyers in the country than any geo political zones, more SANs than any part of the country yet , only left this legal representative to make nonsense out of the collective intelligence of a great people.
The lawyer withdrawal expose our fragile law representatives in court of law. It is not a crime for lawyers withdrawal in a case but the manner and excuse given for the withdrawal depicts that it is ruse, flimsy and expose weakness and incompetence of the so called Managing Partner of Law Corridor. Should he be reminded that his job is to defend him not to glorify comments made by a third party.
The man Olajengbesi has just reminded Nigerians how we miss the legal fireworks of the likes of Gani Fawehinmi of blessed memory would this great Senior Advocate of the Masses have withdrawn not even Femi Falana because of a comment made by another! when Igboho is not near the vicinity it was uttered nor credited to his client held in Benin prison. What a terrible assumption to terminate representing someone in a case of treason!
What a very low IQ in discharging oneself from a very sensitive and sensational case of such. It is amusing to see the inks of today’s lawyer in such display of impetus lacking merit of a true representation of a client.
Olajengbesi reaction to Prof Akintoye is distraction, unwarranted and certainly not telling us the truth of the real reason for his sudden withdrawal. It clearly shown that there’s more to it than what he is trying to portray. He is contacted as Sunday Igboho’s legal representative and those arrested by SSS not as a representative of Prof Akintoye or the agitating group .
The truth is, he lack the capacity to rescue the principal suspect languishing in Benin prison. Therefore, citing personal opinion and conscience as excuse should have been respected if he didn’t hang on the comment of Prof Akintoye emotional outburst on the coming elections.
It is left for discerning Nigerians to either abandoned Sunday Adeyemo a.k.a Sunday Igboho or make a case for him or at best give credence to the flimsy excuse of a shivering lawyer. However, it should be suggested that a political solution is a better option to let him off the hook, he concluded.
