How Nigeria Denies15Years Old Agbo Adoga International Recognition
This is Agbo Adoga, a 15-year-old student of Graceland International School, Port Harcourt.
This young boy just made history as the first Nigerian to ever score a perfect 1600 in the SAT. A global exam that even students in the best schools around the world střúggle with, yet he aced it perfectly. As if that’s not enough, Agbo Adoga has also won 84 national and international awards in Mathematics, Coding, and other STEM competitions. You will agree with me that his brilliance is on another level, a sure great boy!
Because of his incredible performance, he qualified to represent Nigeria at the International Mathematics Olympiad in China, according to his school. But sâdly, the Nigerian Ministry of Education says there’s no money to sponsor anyone. I repeat, the Nigerian Ministry of Education says it lâcks money to sponsor anyone including a brilliant kid like Agbo Adoga. Imagine that! A boy this gifted, carrying so much potential, about to make the country proud on a world stage, and the government says “no funds.”
In countries where excellence is valued, Agbo would be treated like a national treasure. The government would find a way, any way to make sure he attends. But here, we prefer to sponsor mêdiòcrity while ignoring the very people who can change the narrative of this nation.
If this was a pilgrimage to Mecca or Israel, millions would be released immediately. But because it’s about education and brilliance, nobody cares. This is why many people have lost hope in the system. Because when a nation refuses to invest in its brightest minds, it silently destrcÿs its own future.
Nigeria doesn’t lack talent. It lacks priorities.
