History, fate and destiny made me, the Kwara State Police Command, CP Ebunoluwarotimi Adelesi Psc+ FISN have said during the Public Lecture/ launching of her Book “Functional Police Memo” in honor of her thirty three and half years of meritorious service to the nation.

The retiring Police Commissioner, CP Ebunoluwarotimi Adelesi told the bewildered audience her journey to stardom of over three decades motivated her to put down her experience, observations and keynotes in the Book, ‘Functional Police Memo” to assist in understanding security dynamism, educate young police officers in the job, give rudimentary analysis on the security calling, erode paranoid instincts and thinking and gives it’s functional disposition to make the society a working enterprise.

The Commissioner of Police, reputable for her best police quote as ‘No sweetheart on Duty” depicts her policing mindsets that she’s a thorough bred policewoman, who detest sentiment in discharge of her official duties, an analytical and practical policewoman, a testimony of hardwork, discipline and dutiful in the line of duty. The no nonsense police officer is called “iron lady” by her ardent admirers.

Among the dignitaries that witness the Public Lecture/Launching of the Book, Functional Police Memo by the retiring CP Ebunoluwarotimi Adelesi are Dr Kamaru Yusuf who is also the Chief Launcher, Rt. Speaking during the book launch, A University Don and Security expert, Dr Oluwadare Ojo from the Institute of Security Nigeria, University of Lagos (UNILAG) has called on Nigerians to give necessary support to security agencies towards ensuring the safety and security of lives and property of the citizenry, saying, based on the reality at hand, security is the responsibility of every individual in the society. He opined that the people would be doing the police and other security agencies a lot of good, including themselves, by offering useful intelligence and information that could lead to the arrest of criminal elements residing in their areas.

Dr Oluwadare Ojo who delivered the keynote address spoke on Thursday in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital, at the launch of the book titled: ‘Functional Police Memo’, written by the retiring Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, Ebunoluwarotimi Adelesi.

Dr Ojo, who noted that “securing an area would automatically make the residents safe, said unemployment and illiteracy are twin major causes of insecurity in the country, urging the government at all levels to step up action in stemming the growing tide of unemployment among the teeming youths across the country”.

He also cautioned the general public against engaging in the act of jungle justice against any culprit, urging them to hand over any arrested criminal to the police for necessary investigation and prosecution instead of taking laws into their own hands.

Also speaking at the event, is the Kwara state Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who was ably represented by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Yakubu Danladi, who expressed worry over the rising case of insecurity in the state and implore that commitment to effective security is not negotiable. He however commended the efforts of the State Police Command under the watch of the irrepressible CP Ebunoluwarotimi Adelesi for working round the clock to ensure crime reduction in the state.

A former Nigerian Ambassador to the Netherlands, Dr Nimota Akanbi in her address, urged the Commissioner of Police not to relent in her efforts of ensuring effective policing of the state and appreciate her efforts that during the turbulent time she raise the bar beyond expectations, to make statement and she’s heard loud and clear.

CP Yetunde Longe of Port Authority Police, Eastern Ports Police Command, Port Harcourt has this to say in her good will message, she gave vivid picture of her darling ‘friendster” as ” an impeccable reputation of an upright, discipline and hardworking officer”. “She is a fearless officer that despite her gender, has served her fatherland through the Force in at least five of the six geo -political zones of the federation and also, in the United Nation /African Union Missions”.

CP Yetunde Longe said further that, her useful experience led to the collections of her police diary, a manifestation of the Book, “Functional Police Memo”. The book will educate, enlightened and impact young officers, she said.

Dr. Ayo Ogunsan in his felicitation message to CP Ebunoluwa Adelesi. ‘It is a great feeling, all we want to say is Glory to God. We thank God for this rare privilege given to our sister, CP Ebunoluwarotimi Adelesi. For police officers, everyday seems like the last not giving assurance’.

Dr. Ogunsan said further, on the book launch. “I salute your painstaking ability and courage to put this book together. This will invariably give an inkling into the life of a police officer. Nigeria definitely needs volumes like this. I often say that we don’t appreciate ourselves including our officers enough.’ he however said it’s thoughtful of the retiring Police officer refer as “iron lady” to inspire young police officers with her discipline, dutiful and patriotic zeal dispositions which she has collated as a parting gifts to inspiring Police Officers”, he said.

The DCP Ops Adekimi Ojo PSC, Mnips of the Kwara State Police Command said, she’s is an excellent officer to work with, she depicts masculine quality and ready not to cow to submission in the battle against crime . He recommend the book to police officers as a guide to stardom. She’s going to be missed, the DCP Ops said.

The Spokeperson for the Kwara State Police Command, SP Ajayi Okasanmi said the CP is hardworking, discipline and a well trained Police Officer who came at a very trying time in the history of the State.

Nevertheless, she’s the first female Commissioner of Police, in a very tense State but her expertise and professional touch brought the security challenges to the minimal, her innovative ideas is massive and she initiated the collaboration of security agencies in the State, muted the idea to the benefits of the State and Nigeria at large, she made very impressive arrests on; armed robbers, kidnapping, cultists, economy saboteurs and douse off the tension of religious riots in the State, she remain incorruptible which enable her to justify her disposition against all odds. She is an hero that will be remembered for a very long time. During her time , the party centre in the Officer Mess was named after her, ‘Ebunoluwarotimi Adelesi Party Center, Officers Mess” SP Ajayi Okasanmi told Aiyekooto Reporters.

Earlier in her welcome address, the state Commissioner of Police, Ebunoluwarotimi Adelesi, had advised all criminal elements in the state to turn a new leaf or face the wrath of the law.

She assured the people of the state of the commitment of the Kwara State Police Command towards reducing the activities of criminals in the state to the barest minimum. She said that security, protection of life and property is not serve on a platter of gold that it’s a serious business with total commitment to all and sundry.

“History, fate and Destiny made me, brought me to the State Command, twice in history as a Deputy Commissioner of Police and as Commissioner of Police, certainly, one day I will be remembered for my invaluable service to the state at a period no one gave me the chance. As a professional trained Policewoman, I did my best during the circumstance in selfless service to the nation, during the period with the support of the Kwara State Police Command and sister agencies we are able to quench an impending and serious security breach that might have engulfed the state into a senseless religious riots by the enemies of the state”, unperturbed Rotimi Adelesi told her audience.

She spoke further in a dinner party organized for her by cross section of security personnel’s of the state , that in her fifty seven days in office as Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Police Command, she wouldn’t have made it in the most trying and sleepless night without the security collaboration of sister agencies who made it a worthwhile mentioning at the moment.

The elated CP Ebunoluwarotimi Adelesi who motivated other security architecture of the state to come under an umbrella, said national security is a collective task. She thank the security apparatus of sister agencies in making the state work perfectly during the period. She appealed that the agencies should sustain the noble idea after her retirement.

The height of the event was the moment when VOAR Worldwide, in conjunction with Aiyekooto Reporters, The Parrot Reporters, presented the organization highest International VOAR Legendary Award to CP Ebunoluwarotimi Adelesi Psc+ FISN , the organization said the award is conferred on her, “On Security And Protection Of Life And Property In Kwara State At A Critical Time In The History Of Nigeria Police Force”. The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Babatunde B. Ishola presented the award to her to the delights of all.

It should be recalled that, the CP Rotimi Adelesi Psc+ FISN was born in 1963, she’s from Sagamu, Ogun State, South West, Nigeria. She enlisted in the Nigeria Police Force on the 3rd of March 1990 as a cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police. She graduated from Ogun State University (Olabisi Onabanjo University where she had Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Language, she proceeded to University of Lagos where she obtained Advance Diploma in Strategic Security and Infrastructure protection.

She attended several courses to her credit ; Advance Detective Course Police Staff College,Jos 2001, Intermediate Leadership Command Course , Police Staff College Jos 2006, United Nations Police Commanders Course Stockholm Sweden 2008, Senior Leadership Command Course 2017.

Rotimi Adelesi had served in various capacities as young and experienced police officer in various states of the federation; she has an intimidating track record of serving in five out of the six geopolitical zones of the country also served at United Nations Peace- keeping mission to Liberia and Darfur (SUDAN).
