DOWEN COLLEGE: LAGOS GOVERNOR REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO JUSTICE

The Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has reaffirmed his commitment to justice in the case of bullying that happened in the Dowen College involving the young Sylvester Oromoni and 5 other students of the school. The school issue came to the fore during the 15th Security Town Hall Meeting organized by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) yesterday in Lagos.

The Governor commenced: ‘I want to make one or two points on the question that’s been asked on the very unfortunate incident that happened at the Dowen College. Not only is it totally condemnable, the state government has since issued out strong statements and also set up strong machinery to ensure that we stop bullying in our schools, to ensure that our teachers listen and take corrective measures that come from their pupils. When they are telling us something, we need to listen to them. Not only when there is crisis before we know what to do and this has been in our communication in the last one month in all school projects and education facilities that we found ourselves.’

On the role that the state government is currently playing, the Governor issued: ‘Not only are we going to come out with stronger regulations around public and private schools but parents also have a role to play to ensure that we could stop bullying in our schools. We need to enjoin our pupils that when they see something, they say something in their schools. This is so that we all can put this very ugly incident behind us.’

‘It is a case that we all are interested in and we believe that the Police will do the rightful job once they have the information to pass on to us’, he reiterated.
