CP Olatunji Disu Rilwan Appointed Principal Staff Officer To The IGP Olukayode Egbetokun

Olatunji Disu Rilwan (born April 13, 1966) hails from Lagos Island LGA of Lagos State. He had his Post-Primary education at Mayflower Junior School, Ikenne, Ogun State; attended Pobuna Secondary Grammar School, Epe; and Saint Gregory’s College, Lagos.

He also obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English (Education) at the Lagos State University in 1989; Post-Graduate Diploma in International Relations and Strategic Studies, also at Lagos State University; a certificate in Personal Protection in the United Kingdom; and holds a Master in Public Administration at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba, Ondo State (2010) and another in Criminology, Security, and Legal Psychology from Lagos State University (2022).

He enlisted into the Nigerian Police Force on 18th of May, 1992 as a cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and was trained at the Nigeria Police Academy, Kaduna.

Disu was Aide-De-Camp (ADC) to former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and was thereafter redeployed to the Ogun State Police Command to serve as the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Ago-Iwoye where he performed excellently well in areas of fighting crimes.

He has made International statement as he led the Nigeria Police contingent on African Union Mission in Sudan (AMIS) to quell the crisis in the war-torn Darfur in 2005.

The feats in Darfur earned Disu instant recognition and he was named the Officer-in-Charge of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Ondo State Police Command, and later Officer-in-Charge SARS in Oyo and Rivers States Police Headquarters, respectively.

Soon afterwards, he was promoted to a new rank as an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) posted as 2ic State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of the Rivers State Police Command before his immediate transfer to Lagos State Command and posted as Commander in-charge of Rapid Response Squad (a position the present IGP, Egbetokun held from 2005-2007).

ACP Disu took over as RRS Commander on 13th June 2015 until his elevation to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) on 10th April, 2019. He was re-appointed the next day, a position he held until 2020 when he was redeployed to Force Headquarters, Abuja at the Department of Operations.

DCP Tunji Disu replaced now-suspended DCP Abba Kyari in August 2021 as Commander, Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT).
He was subsequently elevated to Commissioner of Police in April 2023.

He attended different professional courses within and outside Nigeria including Small Arms Smuggling Training in Botswana, Internet Fraud Training at the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom, Strategic Leadership Command Course at the Police Staff College, Jos, Forensic Investigations and Criminal Intelligence Course at the University of Lagos, amongst others.

He is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, Nigeria Institute of Public Relations and Chattered Institute of Personnel management, etc.

Disu became a Judoka in 1986 and is a Third Dan Blackbelter. He won two gold medals at the National Sports Festival in Bauchi 1990.

He is a recipient of 2 gold medals at the Nigerian Police games and a silver medal at the Armed Forces Games.

In November 2021, TunjinDisu won a gold medal at the first veteran championships organized by the Nigerian Police.

He won a silver medal at the -100kg in the 2022 US Open Judo Championships.

He is the Chairman of the Police Judo Association and was the Chairman of the Lagos State Judo Association.
