Court Grants Abba Kyari Two-Week Bail For Mother’s Burial

A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted the former commander of the Force Intelligence Response Team, DCP Abba Kyari, two weeks’ bail after 27 months in detention.

The court said the two-week bail was to allow Kyari to return home to conclude his mother’s burial rites.

The court subsequently set Friday, May 31, for the determination of his bail application in the trial over alleged Tempering of Drugs by his Police IRT who arrested the International drug traffickers Emeka Alphonsus Ezenwanne and Chibunna Umeibe at the Car park of Enugu International Airport on 19/1/2022 after the Drug traffickers were cleared out. Subsequently after 6 days of Investigation the Police IRT Voluntarily transferred the Drug Suspects and drugs to the NDLEA on the 25/1/2022 and the NDLEA accused the Police officers that they tempered with some of the drugs the Police IRT arrested and transferred to NDLEA. The Allegation the Police officers have denied completely.

Meanwhile the Main Drug traffickers arrested by Police IRT and transferred to NDLEA Patrick Chibunna Umeibe and Emeka Alphonsus Ezenwanne were given soft landing and eventually released on the 19th May 2023. The Police IRT officers that made the Arrest and transferred to NDLEA are still under detention for over 27 months since February 14, 2022.

The irony of it all is that, while many Nigerians are still puzzled why the drug suspects are on the street enjoying their freedom , the Police officers who arrested them are languishing in the four wall of the Prison Correctional Centre , Kuje which suggests to the discerning minds that there’s more to it. Despite substantiated evidence that depicts the fact that the viral video was forensically proven to be doctored , they’re still being unjustly held in detention.

Contrary to the False news Circulated, It’s also on Record that embattled DCP Kyari and his IRT Police officers were never Arrested but they Voluntarily reported to the Police Headquarters by themselves on 11/2/2022 before they were Subsequently transferred to NDLEA on the 14/2/2022.

However, well meaning Nigerians and organizations has collectively called the attention of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to grant the police officers amnesty and fast track the unconditional release of the Police officers on humanitarian ground.

Kyari’s mother died in the early hours of Sunday, May 5, 2024, and was survived by 10 children (five males and five females), including Abba, who is the eldest son.

While Abba Kyari was not able to attend his mother’s burial, residents of Borno State turned out in large numbers to pay their respects to Yachilla, who was buried according to Islamic rites the same day
