Couple Caught Trafficking A Month Old Baby In Anambra

In what seems unbelievable but true , the Anambra State Police Command is about to unravel the mystery of sales of a month old baby. Community Policing remain the best form of policing that’s why the strategy remain best sacrosanct in information dissemination to the Nigeria Police Force.

In a very circumstantial incident, the Anambra State Police Command arrested a couple trafficking a month old baby from Ajah Lagos State. The interception was made at Bridgehead in Onitsha on the 17th December,2023. DSP Tochukwu Ikenga has said in a statement signed and released to Journalists in Akwa the Anambra State capital.

In a twist of destiny, the suspected couple were traveling with a luxury bus with a baby when a co-passenger observed that the mother could not breastfeed the baby despite its cry for food in the course of the journey.

The patriotic Samaritan placed a call to police hotline control room who in turn share the information to police stationed at Bridgehead in Onitsha.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga in the statement released said, “the Police laid in wait for the luxury bus described and intercepted it in the evening hours. The couple and the Baby were identified and brought down for questioning. They confessed buying the child from its mother in Ajah, Lagos for the sum of N30,000”, Ikenga stated.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye has directed that the couple be handed to National Agency for Prohibition in Trafficking of Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation and prosecution. Meanwhile the Baby has been handed to the Ministry of Women Affairs for care by the State Government.

CP Aderemi Adeoye thank the public spirited citizen for his humane concern in giving the information that led to the rescue of the child, and commended Police Operatives for their vigilance and dedication to duty. DSP Tochukwu Ikenga has said in the stated report.
