The Nigeria Police Force Anambra State Command expressed deep sorrow over the death of veteran journalist Alphonsus Nweze, who died in a road accident along the Onitsha-Asaba Expressway on October 7, 2025. Mr. Nweze was a respected member of the Nigeria Union of Journalists and Correspondents’ Chapel.
The Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo described Nweze as a courageous voice for truth and advocate for responsible journalism, praising his dedication to truth, integrity, and public service.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu acknowledged Nweze’s contributions to shaping the security reportage in Anambra State, describing him as a diligent and courageous reporter.
The NUJ Chairman, Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu described Nweze’s death as a painful and irreplaceable loss to the journalism family, praising his humility, professionalism, and commitment to truth, justice, and fairness.
A statement released from the police Spokesperson of the state , SP Tochukwu Ikenga has confirmed that Nweze died in a fatal road accident along the Onitsha-Asaba Expressway when the vehicle he was traveling in lost its brakes and crashed.
Colleagues and associates have paid tribute to Nweze, describing him as a dedicated professional, mentor, and friend .
