Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and the Attorney General of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Aliwura, will converge in Ado Ekiti next Monday to celebrate the 60th legal registration anniversary of the legal luminary, Afe Babalola SAN.
According to the paper, The event will be attended by the Sultan of Sokoto State, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto State, Bishop Matthew Kuka, President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Yakubu Maikyaw SAN, and others.
Afe Babalola, founder of Afe Babalola University and Vanguard columnist, was admitted to the Bar of England and Wales on July 9, 1963.
The event will mark the 60th anniversary of his legal career and will include a public lecture and book launch.
According to a statement by Kehinde Ogunwumiju, SAN, chairman of the organizing committee, the ceremony is being organized by students, admirers, and beneficiaries of Aare Babalola and will be held at the Alpha Belgore Hall of the Afe Babalola University ABUAD, Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State.
According to Ogunwumiju SAN, Bishop Kuka will deliver a commemorative lecture titled “The Future of Constitutional Democracy in Nigeria”: chaired by former President Obasanjo.
He said that former President Obasanjo will deliver a lecture titled “The Future of Constitutional Democracy in Nigeria: the Need for a New Constitutional Order,” which will be chaired by former President Obasanjo.
The organizers further revealed that the funds raised from the book launch will be used to build the ABUAD Museum, “while the day’s activities will conclude with a celebratory dinner with King Sunny Ade to be held at the same venue by 7:00 pm.
The statement read: “The jubilant event will be attended by a who’s who of socialites, including lawyers, members of the legal profession, jurists, royalty, clergy, representatives of the University of London, King’s College London, industry heavyweights, and diplomats.
‘An outstanding advocate, Aare Afe Babalola has made outstanding contributions to Nigerian law and Japanese jurisprudence.
He has made outstanding contributions to Nigerian law and jurisprudence through his outstanding advocacy in the courts and through the writing of several legal books.
He has served as president of the Nigerian Association of Arbitrators. He has been repeatedly invited by the Supreme Court of Nigeria as amicus curiae.
He has also trained over 1,000 lawyers and produced 25 senior Nigerian lawyers, including the Attorney General at the federal and state levels and judges up to the Court of Appeal.
Aare Afe Babalola is a dedicated educator and served two terms as Pro-Chancellor and Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), where he received the University’s highest award.
