The Ogun State Police Command has warned against use of fireworks popularly called “Banga” during the yuletide period, this is because of the security concern collaborated by report indices coming from residents of Sagamu, Ijebu ode, Ikenne, Sango OTA among others over the indiscriminate use, the deafening unfriendly sound threatened the state of peace of mind and trigger anxiety of residents, SP Omolola Odutola the Police Spokeperson for the state has said in Abeokuta the state capital .
The threat to relative peace and security which raise apprehension as express by lawful residents caught the attention of the state Commissioner of Police, CP Alamutu Abiodun Mustapha Psc and criminalize the use of the fireworks explosives and declared it ban. Hence, “upholding the distressing complaints from residents and the community about their inability to differentiate between gunshots and genuine fireworks, that residents have been thrown to sleepless night, constant terror from the deafening bang from these dangerous explosives”. SP Odutola was quoted in the report.
It should be recalled that, men of the underworld has always use it indiscriminately to divert attention to strike their victims in the past. The Commissioner of Police, CP Alamutu Abiodun Mustapha strategic ban of the indiscriminate use of it may not be unlikely fathom it concern from the aforesaid.
Speaking further, SP Omolola Odutola the Command Spokesperson stated clearly that “display of fireworks is deeply ingrained in tradition as an essential preparation of the end of year celebrations” but highlighted that residents must enjoy the rights of privacy which the use of the fireworks threatened. The disposition of the above is a threat to security, hence the Commissioner of Police, CP Alamutu Abiodun Mustapha stern warming is not out of place, defaulters of the directives, does so at their peril, ‘Banga’ has been criminalize as punitive sanctions will accompany deliberate violations in accordance with extant laws.
