A MESSAGE TO THE FAMILY OF MR. TAIWO HASSAN (OGOGO)
Dear Family of Mr. Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo,
On behalf of the Nigerian Cancer Society, Lagos State Chapter, I wish to express our concern, goodwill and support to Mr. Taiwo Hassan and his entire family at this time.
We have seen the images circulating on social media regarding his reported cancer diagnosis. While we respect the family’s privacy and the sensitivity of this moment, we would like to use this opportunity to appeal to the family, and indeed to anyone facing a cancer diagnosis, to be extremely cautious about individuals promoting miracle cures or unverified treatments.
A cancer diagnosis can be frightening and overwhelming. It is precisely at such vulnerable moments that patients and their families can become targets for people seeking to exploit their situation for financial gain. Cancer requires proper diagnosis, professional medical advice and evidence-based treatment.
As Chairman of the Nigerian Cancer Society, Lagos State Chapter, I want the family to know that they are not alone. Lagos has established cancer centres and oncology facilities where patients can receive appropriate assessment, treatment and professional guidance.
These include:
- Medserve-LUTH Cancer Centre, Idi-Araba
- AVLSC, Lekki Phase 1
- Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja
- Federal Medical Centre, Yaba
- Marcell Ruth Cancer Centre, Victoria Island
- Lakeshore Cancer Centre, Victoria Island
- Me Cure Cancer Centre, Oshodi
- Pearl Oncology Hospital, Lekki
To the Hassan family, our message is simple: please seek care from qualified oncology professionals and do not allow desperation or misinformation to influence critical treatment decisions.
We pray for strength, wisdom and comfort for the family, and we wish Mr. Taiwo Hassan the very best as he navigates this difficult period.
There is still much work to be done in educating our communities about cancer and protecting patients from misinformation, false claims and exploitation.
Cancer patients deserve facts, compassionate care and hope grounded in evidence, not false promises.
Princess Tinu Lawal
Chairman, Nigerian Cancer Society, Lagos State Chapter
