Police Commence Training and Orientation Of Vigilante Groups To Enhance Security Measures In Anambra State

ANAMBRA STATE POLICE COMMAND SET TO COMMENCE TRAINING/RE-ORIENTATION OF VIGILANTE OPERATIVES IN THE STATE

The Anambra State Police Command, under the stoic leadership of the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu PhD has launched an initiative to train and reorient vigilante operatives across the state. This effort aims to enhance community security and safety by equipping vigilante groups with essential skills and knowledge.

The Police Spokesperson for the state , SP Tochukwu Ikenga briefing news men in Akwa the state capital has said.

According to SP Ikenga, the Key Components of the Training are :

• Security Protocols:
  Vigilante operatives will learn about standard security procedures to improve their effectiveness in maintaining law and order.
• Human Rights:
  The training will cover human rights principles to ensure that vigilante groups operate within the bounds of the law and respect citizens’ rights.
• Community Policing:
  Operatives will be taught community policing strategies to foster better collaboration between the police, vigilante groups, and the community.
• Ethics and Professionalism:
  Lectures will focus on promoting professionalism and ethics within vigilante groups.
• Crime Scene Management:
  Operatives will learn how to manage crime scenes effectively.
• Rule of Law:
  The training will emphasize adherence to the rule of law.
• Handling of Exhibits: Vigilante operatives will receive guidance on handling exhibits properly .

According to SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the importance is to boost security in the state. The objectives of the Initiatives are as follows:

• Enhanced Collaboration
  Improve synergy between vigilante groups, the police, and other security agencies.
• Accountability: Ensure accountability within vigilante groups through documentation and streamlined operations.
• Organizational Structure: Strengthen the organizational structure of vigilante outfits.

The Anambra State Police Command’s effort has received praise from the Agunechemba vigilante group, which views the initiative as a demonstration of the command’s commitment to professionalism and community-oriented policing.
