Catholic Priest Rescued From Kidnapper’s, Police Still On Hot Chase Of Criminal Suspects In Anambra

ANAMBRA POLICE SECURES THE RELEASE OF THE ABDUCTED REVEREND FATHER AT ICHIDA: RECOVERS ONE OF THE CRIMINAL’S OPERATIONAL VEHICLES AND STILL ON THE TRAIL OF THE ASSAILANTS

The Anambra State Police Command in collaborative efforts with other Joints Security Forces has responded swifty to the abduction of Rev. Father Stephen Echezona, a statement emanating from the office of the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga has said in Akwa the state capital.

According to him, Rev Father Echezona, a Catholic priest, was abducted at a fuel station in Ichida, but thankfully, he’s been rescued unharmed by a Joint Security team. The team, comprising the Police, Military, Civil Defence, AVG Ichida, and Ihiala, responded swiftly to the incident.

The document sighted by Aiyekooto Reporters Correspondent disclosed that, the abduction occurred when armed criminals in a white Lexus SUV without a plate number engaged in a gun duel with the joint security force.

The assailants abandoned their vehicle and took the priest hostage, but the security team’s hot pursuit forced them to release Rev. Father Echezona at Ihiala. The criminals escaped through a nearby bush, leaving behind the white Lexus, which was recovered by the operatives.

The Joint Security Team is currently investigating the incident, and efforts are being made to recover the Toyota Highlander belonging to the Rev. Father. Thankfully, Rev. Father Echezona, who serves as the Chaplain of the Awka Diocesan Catholic Charismatic Renewal, is safe, SP Ikenga has said in the released document .
