Senator Natasha’s suspension from the Nigerian Senate was actually recommended by the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Code of Conduct, chaired by Senator Neda Imasuen. The committee found Senator Natasha guilty of violating Senate rules, specifically bringing the presiding officer and the Senate into public disrepute .
According to report, a stoic female senator and a grandmother, 70-year-old Ireti Kingibe who played a key role in the crucification of Senator Natasha even before the outcome of the Commission of enquiry is perceived by the public to be more than suspension.
The same Ireti has openly insulted Natasha for no reason when she is not sure whether Natasha is saying the truth or not base on her emotional outbursts on further allegations against the Senate President Akpabio on sexual harassment. According to the Kogi Central Senator, Natasha she’s being treated with disdain and witch-hunts in opening the can of worms despite having overwhelming evidence against the Senate President.
It should be recalled that, the Nigerian Senate has 4 elected female senators; out of the total of 109 Senators in total the 2 other female senators teamed up with Ireti Kingibe to throw Natasha under the bus, rather than giving her the benefit of the doubt with the knowledge that their colleague is swimming in shark-infested water. They still choose to throw her to the sharks to devour
It’s worth noting that Senator Natasha’s suspension was a result of her protest over the reallocation of her seat in the chamber and her public statements, which the committee deemed a breach of legislative protocols. The suspension was upheld by a majority vote in the Senate, with some senators attempting to reduce the suspension to three months .
The controversy surrounding Senator Natasha’s suspension raises important questions about power dynamics, patriarchy, and the treatment of women in positions of authority in Nigeria.
