Remi Tinubu : The Senate Is A Matured Institution

Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has come out in support of the Nigerian Senate, calling it a “matured” institution that deserves respect. Her comments come amidst allegations of sexual harassment and abuse of power against Senate President Godswill Akpabio by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan ¹.

According to Senator Tinubu, the Senate is handling the situation appropriately, and lawmakers are “doing what is needful.” She emphasized that the chamber should be a place of honor, not controversy, and urged Nigerian women to assert themselves in leadership roles.

Senator Tinubu, who served in the Senate for 12 years, also celebrated the achievements of women in Nigeria ahead of International Women’s Day. She acknowledged the progress women have made over the decades, from the matriarchs of old to contemporary figures like Zuriel Oduwole, who champions peace.

However, it’s worth noting that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has been suspended for six months by the Senate for violating the Red Chambers’ rules, following her dispute with Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
