Femi Falana Vow To Take Legal Action Against General Babangida

Femi Falana, a renowned human rights lawyer and activist, has vowed to take legal action against General Babangida, citing egregious human rights violations during his rule. Falana’s determination stems from the need to hold those responsible accountable and ensure that past injustices are not forgotten.

Specific incidents, such as the execution of General Mamman Vatsa and other military officers under a treason decree, and the assassination of journalist Dele Giwa, remain contentious in Nigeria’s history. The Babangida administration’s failure to investigate Giwa’s murder and obstruction of justice have been repeatedly condemned by the ECOWAS Court.

Falana’s efforts have garnered support from progressive lawyers and the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, which is compiling a comprehensive list of victims. With abundant evidence, Falana is determined to set a precedent for justice in Nigeria by taking legal action against Babangida.

As a prominent human rights advocate, Falana has a long history of defending journalists, activists, and ordinary citizens against human rights abuses . His work has been recognized internationally, with awards such as the International Bar Association’s Bernard Simons Memorial Award.
