16 fun facts about David Akanmu, UNILAG 5.0 CGPA graduate

In an exclusive interview with Edugist, David Akanmu revealed interesting details about himself.

A graduate of civil engineering, David Akanmu has left an indelible mark at University of Lagos by graduating as the overall best student with a remarkably perfect 5.0/5.0 CGPA.

His story is one of hard work, discipline, and an insatiable thirst for learning.

Here are sixteen (16) fun facts about the 5.0 CGPA graduate.

  1. His full name is David Oluwatomiwa Akanmu.
  2. His birthday is on February 21.
  3. He had his primary education at University of Lagos Women Society Nursery and Primary School till 2010.
  4. He then proceeded to International School, Ibadan located at the University of Ibadan for his secondary education and finished in 2016.
  5. He graduated from secondary school at age 15 and enrolled in a foundation programme in UNILAG to gain admission into 200 level the following year due to the age barrier for Nigerian admission.
  6. During his undergraduate years, he was involved in social impact functions and was a recipient of the Millennium Fellowship in 2019.
  7. He resided in Shodeinde Hall of Residence throughout his undergraduate years.
  8. His father, Prof. James Akanmu, is a professor of civil engineering at UNILAG and lectured him in four courses: Introduction to Civil Engineering (200 level), Engineers in the Society (200 level), and 2 Environmental Engineering courses (500 level).

  10. He comes from a family of 6 and everyone except him was born on a Thursday.
  11. He is the second child of his parents.
  12. He never used the library because he read a report of a first class graduate who led a triangular lifestyle—from hostel to classroom to library and back to hostel—and he didn’t think that was cool (yikes!).
  13. He was unlucky with scholarships. Despite achieving a 5.0 GPA every semester, he applied to 20 scholarships and didn’t get any until his 21st try.
  14. Eventually he was awarded the NNPC/SNEPCo National University Scholarship, OxBridge-Unilag Alumni Initiative Scholarship, and Unilag Endowment Fund, among others.
  15. He is the author of the book “Roadmap to 5.0, The Not-so-hidden Secrets to Academic Success” written to educate students who would love to make good grades.
  16. He currently works as a consultant at Boston Consulting Group (BCG).
